Yim Jiksoon 〈Autumn Woman〉

1974.

Oil on canvas, 116.8×80.3cm, Private collection

Flowers and women appear as main subjects in Yim Jiksoon’s works. In particular, a composition with a seated woman is one of main features of Yim’s works. This work was painted with his student as a model, and the pomegranate tree at his home in Hakwoon-dong, Gwangju as a background. The figure of a bashful woman in a red blouse with the background full of the scent of autumn almost feels warm. The model of the work, who was a student of the artist at the time, later became the daughter-in-law of the painter, Chun Kyung-ja due to her acquaintance with her teacher, Yim.
