Oh Chiho 〈Autumn Landscape〉

1953.

Oil on canvas, 50×60cm, Gwangju Museum of Art

The painting captures the autumn landscape of a rural farming village in Korea. The clear blue sky without a single cloud and the mountains dressed in red leaves give off an impression of autumn at once. The primary colors of yellow and red and the strong brushstroke show the autumn seen through the eyes of the artist. The work was executed after the 1940s when the divisionist brushstroke was disappeared and constructing color fields and simplifying composition by removing details were attempted.
