Maebyeong Vase with Peonies

〈Maebyeong Vase with Peonies〉, 2024.

Porcelain, cobalt oxide, glaze, 43.2×33×30.5cm, Commissioned by National Asian Culture Center

Maebyeong Vase with Peonies is inspired by the traditional Korean Maebyeong form which is influenced by the “Meiping” shape from China. Also called a “prunus vase,” it was often used as a decorative object to hold plum blossoms. This piece is decorated with peonies, a motif widely used in both Chinese and Korean ceramics to symbolize wealth and prosperity.
