The color Jade has an apparent deep connection to Korean culture. The jade stone is associated with abundance, prosperity, and emotional balance. The artist chose Korean porcelain and a Korean jade glaze for this work to celebrate the time the artist spent here in Korea. This garden marks several firsts for Se Oh as an artist and serves as the artist’s tribute to “coming home” for the very first time as a Korean-American adoptee. Se Oh sees this work as effectively planting the roots back in one’s motherland.
