Koo Bohnchang: The Look of Things

2024 ACC FOCUS special exhibition begins anew in solo exhibitions introducing world-class Asian contemporary art masters who have changed the framework of human culture and art. As a start, ACC invites photographer Koo Bohnchang, a pioneer in modern Korean photography. His works are based on a sufficient understanding of the subject’s materiality and historical trail. So even though the works are photographs of things, they have an overwhelming atmosphere reminiscent of portrait. 2024 ACC FOCUS 《Koo Bohnchang: The Look of Things》 examines the macro-narrative and micro-narrative of the objects Koo selected through his major series and focuses on the Korean character and Asian sentiment that exists within them.

presents a series of artifacts with historical background, such as Korean War artifacts, White Porcelain from the Joseon Dynasty, and Gold Crowns from the Silla Dynasty, transformed into video and installation. introduces a series of everyday objects discovered by the artist. It consists of various series, including , which is photographs of the artist’s collection, , which captures an installation from the 15th century French architecture, and , which focuses on empty boxes or spaces, and , which photographs an everyday object. displays a variety of archive materials that help understand the theme of the exhibition and Koo’s oeuvre, including his collections that were the subject of his works and collaborative works with mass media.

2024 ACC FOCUS 《Koo Bohnchang: The Look of Things》 is an exhibition where one can see the works Koo has been immersed in for a long time to convey the stories within the objects. The exhibition will also serve as an opportunity to share the unique language of his works.
