The series began in 1998 with the opportunity to photograph Ockrang Cultural Foundation’s Kkokdu collection. Kkokdu is a small wooden sculpture generally created to decorate the bier used in traditional Korean funerals, and is believed to accompany the deceased on his arduous journey to the afterlife. The artist focused on the fact that the roughly represented face and interesting shape of kkokdu express Korean sentiment. When one sees a kkokdu that is about 30 centimeters in actual size printed as a large-scale photograph, its shape and color appear more vivid and intense. The faces of kkokdu, expressed with bold omission, later became the inspiration for the series. In this exhibition, ten temporary walls were built to place the series on the front and the series on the back
