Jeimin Kim’s depiction of the present, while involving different methods, addresses common features across periods beyond the
post–COVID-19 age. After all, the need for people to take well-earned breaks from work or exercise is constant no matter the era. Kim’s work depicts these timeless pictures through anthropomorphized weeds. The greatest strength of anthropomorphism, which imbues nonhuman beings (e.g., animals, plants, and objects) with human qualities, is its power to
bring the anthropomorphized being closer to the audience and lessen the risk of it being rejected. This creates a close bond with the said object and helps the viewer approach them from
a different perspective, even when encountering them outside of the exhibition. Kim’s work invites us to transform our perception of the nonhuman weeds and leads us to rethink our
ideas about coexisting with other species.
