- Period 2022.08.25.~2022.11.27.
- Location ACC Creation, Space 6
2022 ACC×GB Gwangju-Asia Sweet Sorrow is the exhibition that explores “the dignity of humans” through the six artists from Gwangju and Asia. The Asia Culture Center has held the ‘ACC Gwangju-Asia exhibition’ as the project related to Gwangju since 2017. This year, in collaboration with the Gwangju Biennale Foundation, the exhibition discusses human dignity with the main theme of democracy, human rights and peace as the values pursued by both organizations.
The exhibition, Sweet Sorrow contemplates on human dignity from different viewpoints and methods by artists in an attempt to give rise to dignity which has been benumbed in the abstract concepts of morals and ethics and mull over it with visual languages. The works by the six participating artists expand vision to the periphery and suggest the universal values of humans, starting from personal experiences through the insights about ideologies, refugees, sexual minorities, the gap between the rich and the poor, human existences, and the social system that generates the marginalized classes. The artists look at the present through the past, discuss diversity instead of homogeneity, and seek practical alternatives. These messages allow us to ruminate that human dignity could be realized when we become autonomous principals who establish our own identities.
This exhibition is expected to provide the audience with an opportunity to encounter the sorrow aspect of reality from the perspectives of the artists and embrace sweet values upheld by their artworks.
