Kim Jayi has been developing Skill of Rest & Relaxation (2017-) focusing on the importance of rest within the rapid pace of life in modern society. Kim proposes gardening as a method for incorporating rest into life in this exhibition. Starting with the artist’s own experience with cultivation, Skill of R & R ver. Urban Farmer is materialized in the exhibition in the form of a vegetable garden built into an urban space. During the exhibition, workshops are held to actually carry out urban farming. Audiences can observe the growth process of the crops while at the same time witnessing how many products and resources are consumed in the cultivation of plants. The work serves as a reminder of the human tendency to attempt to heal through nature while destroying it, directing viewers to contemplate a life in which humans coexist with nature.
