Hyewon Kwon has carried out extensive research on certain events or places imbued with memory and worked on expressing them as narrations in the medium of projected images, installations, and performances among others. Liquid Vision – Prologue explores what types of possibilities can arise in our perception when we watch “a river” in the media. The project pertains to understand which interface a river has, which texts are working and read in the space of a river, and what types of storage device a river is. Thus, it challenges the conventional perception and the limit of the sense of humans who accept the two environments: a medium and a river.
To probe the aforementioned issues, Liquid Vision – Prologue looks into the specific surroundings regarding the origin stage of a river, and those spaces include the source of the river from mountains, valleys, and reservoirs. Embracing the many different characteristics of water and focusing on the views from amphibians, which have developed those environment-specific senses, this project deals with measurement, which are covered up as being “clear” in the documentaries concerning ecology and the presentations of the aquatic ecosystem, recording devices, and various visual equipment that serves as a medium for observation by humans. Also, the aim is to share the perspectives from science fiction that leads us to a strange place and reconsider the biases, which are centered on land, from the viewpoint of being amphibious.
