Gut (good) Place: For Every Jo Wangs is a place where recipes that have been passed on by female “sensibilities” and “words” finally gather together. At the same time, it is a place to praise all of the jo wangs (kitchen gods) who were eventually able to find the answers even without a fridge. Those foods were dried, salted, and fermented: they are the works to remember the wisdom and culture of mothers who have created and preserved to feed us. Jangdong Collective completes “Gut (good) Place,” a place for the jo wangs , with mothers, artists, designers, and musicians from Gwangju, a city in the southwest of South Korea. It initially began with an idea that the dried food ingredients which would return to the original status when fully boiled, and those salted and fermented foods which are served while not being fully cooked as well as uncooked lie on the boundary between life and death. Here the recipes that would be forgotten without being present gather together. We expended that these recipes that may probably gather in one place for the last time could be shared, and the wisdom and efforts of the jo wangs contained in them could be remembered.
