What kind of future are we facing?

The National Asian Culture Center has launched the ACC Future Prize to honor creators of artistic languages who broaden innovative future values and opportunities. The ACC Future Prize delves into the prospects for future life, as hinted at by transdisciplinary art practices that weave together human, environmental, and technological transformations, all through the lens of art, media, and technology. In an era where the boundaries between art and technology are ever evolving and expanding, the notion of “futurity” prompts us to rethink the role of art, setting the stage for the emergence of new artistic possibilities. The ACC seeks to establish itself as a leading Asian convergence art platform by curating and showcasing works that fully utilize the area of Creation 1(1,560㎡). These works are designed to embody a forward-looking artistic vision that integrates innovative digital culture and technology on a grand scale. The ACC Future Prize, set to be held biennially starting this year, is recognized as Asia’s premier award for fusion and convergence art, accompanied by an annual exhibition program. For the 2024 ACC Future Prize, over 15 local and international experts nominated four artists in total, with the final winners chosen through a deliberative process based on proposals submitted by the selected artists. The winners of the ACC Future Prize will receive substantial support, including 300 million won to produce an exhibition within the complex, and will be encouraged to pursue opportunities for future international exhibitions. With the ACC Future Prize, the National Asian Culture Center seeks to establish a unified art platform that transcends spatial and institutional limits, fostering the creation of a new future for art.
