“When the moon becomes full, a festival begins.”
“The moon has highly significant implications in cosmology, a world view, an outlook on life, the life and customs of Koreans.” (Source: Moon, Encyclopedia of Korean Culture)
While looking at the moon, people talk about its brightness and mildness. A gentle and beautiful moonlight is inclusive and embracing. It makes things get along together and melt with each other. Unlike the sunlight that distinctively individualizes or separates objects, the moonlight conflates each other instead of distinguishing ourselves. This is why the moonlight makes us feel cozy and gentle.
The moonlight exists with darkness. Rather than driving away darkness, the moonlight brightens part of the darkness but coexists with darkness in the center of it as if the moonlight is the wick of darkness. Due to its brightness, the moon has long been considered the symbol of power to purify. As “a lasting life with death,” the moon has established itself as a symbol of regeneration and vitality by displaying the phenomenon of wax and wane.
We, who have been going through unexpectedly difficult times, glance again towards the moon that waxes.
The day is the light of the sky, and the night is the darkness of the sky. The moon becomes the light in such a night.
“Night falls, light fulls”
The tracks of the moon and stars, the light of the night, reveal themselves brightening the festival in the Sensory Garden.
