Save Food from the Fridge is ongoing project that combines ethnographic knowledge of food preservation and objects for the kitchen. It introduces a way (ways) for keeping fresh food ingredients with using traditional knowledge, without being dependent on the fridge.
Globally one-third of food produced is being wasted. Through research, we’ve found out that a lot of this waste is created ironically by using an object that was created to preserve produce: the refrigerator.
By keeping almost all fresh food inside the fridge, we tend to create a lot of food waste. We often forget what we have stored in the fridge and most of the time we have to throw it away when we finally notice it. Moreover, some food ingredients do not really need to be in the fridge and sometimes they can actually suffer from the very cold temperature in the fridge.
Save Food from the Fridge provides design tools to keep food ingredients outside the refrigerator with the support of centuries of knowledge of food preservation as well as “traditional and scientific” methods. The designs also highlight the beauty of our vegetables and fruits and allow us to appreciate them visually all day, ensuring that we will not forget to eat them.
